How Your Color Season Influences, But Does Not Dictate, Your Style Personality and Overall Look.

Understanding how your color season affects your style personality and overall appearance can transform the way you dress and present yourself. Color seasons are a system that categorizes people based on their natural coloring—skin tone, eye color, and hair color—into four main groups: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. In the 12 season system, each of the four categories are broken down into sub seasons which are dictated by intensity, temperature, and clarity.

This post discusses how knowing your color season can guide you to explore those particular traits from your own sub-season to help you better understand the hows and whys of style.

How Color Season Shapes Your Style Personality

Your color season does more than just suggest your best colors. It also reflects aspects of your style personality by looking to the depth and clarity of your natural coloring. Here are some of the basic characteristics of each seasons' personality and color traits.

Spring: The Energetic, Warm, Bubbly, Personality

People in the Spring category often have warmth and clarity in their coloring.. Their style personality tends to be fresh, lively, and optimistic. Springs's characteristics are light, clear, and warm.

  • Soft Springs look best in light colors like peach, coral, and french blue.

  • Gold Springs look best in warm colors like pink coral, spring green and corn yellow.

  • Sharp Springs look best in clear colors like soft navy, clear red and teal.

Summer: The Romantic, Serene, and Whimsical Style Personality

Summers have cool undertones with soft, muted coloring. Their style personality leans toward calm, romantic, and elegant looks. Summers' characteristic are soft, cool, and light.

  • Hazy Summers wear lighter shades like sky blue, pink and lavender.

  • Platinum Summers wear the cool shades like raspberry, lemonade and bright aqua.

  • Mellow Summers wear the soft shades like mauve, soft blue green, and creamy yellow.

Autumn: The Warm, Earthy, and Approachable Style Personality

Autumns have warm undertones with richness to their coloring. Their style personality is grounded, natural, and cozy. Autumns' characteristics are soft, warm, and deep.

  • Light Autumns wear soft colors like ice peach, butter, and soft olive

  • Gold Autumns wear warm colors like coral, teal and chocolate.

  • Rich Autumns wear deep colors like, eggplant, mahogany and dark olive.

Winter: The Bold, Confident, and Dramatic Style Personality

Winters have cool undertones with high contrast features—dark hair and bright eyes. Their style personality is more outgoing and extreme. Winters' characteristics are deep, cool and clear.

  • Crisp Winters look best in clear colors like bright blue, magenta, and violet.

  • Icy Winters look best in cool colors like light blue, plum berry, and alpine green .

  • Vivid Winters look best in deep colors like navy, burgundy, and cool red.

You will notice that you will carry a bit of your season's personality with you in your style, but it may not be your dominant style type.

  •  For example, as a Gold Autumn, I look best in the warmest and the clearest versions of the autumn shades. The light, soft shades and the deep, dark shades of Autumns' colors are not my best. As an Autumn, I have a natural aspect to my style. I love neutrals and enjoy a little flow in my outfits. As a Gold Autumn, I am also drawn to Spring's classic traits.
